Ivo_03 emerged from the same approach pioneered in Francesco Borromini’s masterpiece, the church of Sant’ Ivo della Sapienza in Rome, by the application of a determinative logic. The result is a sensual coffee table driven by the rigours of mathematics. Award winning architects and product designers Asymptote, Hani Rashid and Lise Anne Couture, have been designing buildings together since 1989 in locations from New York to the Persian Gulf, committed to merging art and architecture. Their Millennium Tower World Business Centre in Busan, Korea will be the tallest building in Asia. Their work is held in the permanent collections of MoMA, the Guggenheim and the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
The form of Ivo_03 expresses itself as a textile or tapestry made solid. The slumped glass top clothes the base of Imperial Tula steel which glistens with uniquely polished surfaces to create swathes of sparkling metal beneath. The design creates an apparently effortless light piece which revels in the naturally reflective qualities of Imperial Tula steel. Ivo_03 is a poised and polished coffee table, an essay in the sophisticated elegance of geometry.
